Bushfire Prevention and Protection

Note the addition of the new category "Catastrophic"
There are many services provided by the Rural Fire Services and the State Emergency Services but we need to do our bit to reduce the risk of our homes burning down. Remember if your home does not burn down, then your neighbours' homes are less likely to burn down. In communities, people need to work to help each other, especially those less physically able, and to clear the nature strips and empty blocks. We cannot wait for the local council to do their bit when a fire is approaching.

The NSW Fire and Rescue site on bushfire preparation is a good start; also see the NSW Rural Fire Service page on Bush Fire Protection Measures. The Victorian Country Fire Authority has a link to their Fire Ready Kit and a series of Community Information Guides. There are similar sites in each state.
